I do hope that Cecily Blench continues her nascent writing career, as this book is brilliant. I would give it ten stars were they available.
Kate's journey from Burma was so vividly described that this reader felt all of the horror and despair that the participants must have been enduring. Each character in the story lives and breathes with a realism which is sadly lacking in other books of this ilk. The author whilst pulling no punches has a sympathy and feeling for all the people that Kate meets and befriends. I cannot praise this book highly enough, it stands head and shoulders above those of other writers. I know more about Burma, and India, than before reading The Long Journey Home, and am indebted to Cecily Blench for depicting these countries without any prejudice.
