January 2024

In January this year, Janys Thornton self-published on Amazon, and again has received mostly four and five star reviews for her first novel, Female Remedies, which quickly sold over 100 copies and  was followed by the publication of An Unsustained Charge, for which she had advance orders. She is now working on the next novel in the series, all set in and around Portsmouth docks in the years of the First World War, and all peopled by an impressive array of strong female characters. Janys, a former civil servant, is an exemplar of the sort of author who can extract the maximum support for her writing. She has already been interviewed for local radio and news outlets, and will be making a personal appearance at a big gig organised in the Chatham Docks area for later in the year. I have asked Janys to keep me up to date with her PR efforts, and hope that her successes will spur others who have been disappointed by the traditional publishers, to think in terms of self -publishing, which is becoming an increasingly attractive proposition for debut authors. I have produced two simple guides to self-publishing, which are free to all- just contact me via my email address for copies.

From being an author writing in isolation, and often in despair, you will have found a companion on the journey who cares about the book as much as you do - Lynn Bushell, Painted Ladies Sandstone Press , Feb. 2019 On sale at all good bookshops......and Tate Modern
